I met Dr. Barbara Stroud at our Profectum Immersion Experience in California this year - and I’m so thankful I did. Dr. Stroud is dedicated to her mission of ‘changing the world – one relationship at a time’ – and that’s something we are both very passionate about. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Dr. Barbara Stroud, to discuss the “Profectum Parent Toolbox” (PPT) – a FREE tool that helps parents, educators, and providers gain a greater understanding of the uniqueness of their child, and how they can better connect and foster relationships as a foundation for enhanced developmental growth. This online resource consists of 37 Webcasts that demonstrate strategies to mobilize a child’s relationship-based interactions. Dr. Stroud wanted to ensure her audience had both the knowledge and access to this invaluable tool. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share the Profectum Parent Toolbox with Dr. Stroud’s community. Thank you, Dr. Stroud! About Dr. Barbara Stroud Barbara Stroud, PhD, is a licensed psychologist with over three decades worth of culturally informed clinical practice in early childhood development and mental health. She is a founding organizer and the inaugural president (2017-2019) of the California Association for Infant Mental Health, a member of the Academy of ZERO TO THREE Fellows, and holds prestigious endorsements as an Infant and Family Mental Health Specialist/Reflective Practice Facilitator Mentor. Dr. Stroud’s book “How to Measure a Relationship” [published 2012] is improving infant mental health practices around the globe. Her newest text, an Amazon best seller “Intentional Living: finding the inner peace to create successful relationships” walks the reader through a deeper understanding of how their brain influences relationships. Additionally, Dr. Stroud is a contributing author to the text “Infant and early childhood mental health: Core concepts and clinical practice” edited by Kristie Brandt, Bruce Perry, Steve Seligman, & Ed Tronick. Dr. Stroud works closely with professionals across multiple disciplines. As Dr. Stroud is particularly passionate about the unique needs of children of color in the mental health and foster care systems, she has continually worked to infuse reflective practice and cultural humility into her trainings, consultation, and service delivery. About the Profectum Parent Toolbox (PPT) The goal of the Profectum Parent Toolbox is to encourage and empower you to build a strong relationship with your child while fostering his or her development. The PPT will guide you in your discovery of your child’s unique sensory and motor differences that are the foundation of how he or she experiences the world and ultimately interacts with you. With a new understanding of your child’s individual strengths and challenges the PPT will help you match Profectum Toolbox Strategies to your child’s needs to support his or her engaging, playing and interacting, thinking and communicating with you. Your Profectum Parent Toolbox™ authors have been working together collaboratively for 20+ years and this program is a culmination of their experiences with families they would like to share with you.

During this "forced pause" in our lives, we want to encourage everyone to take a few moments to enjoy the opportunity to "just be" with each other, and appreciate the unexpected gift we have been given to spend quality time with our loved ones.
A very special thank you to Celebrate the Children students, parents, and staff, along with CTC and Profectum’s greater community, for participating in this new version of the video montage featuring “Bein’ With You,” and for sharing your special relationships during this challenging time. Where true potential is discovered through building relationships and connections and children are given a voice where they can be heard and understood. Imagine a place where students are people, not a label, and intervention treats the person, not the diagnosis. Welcome to Celebrate the Children. Hope. Promise. Potential. When their child with autism fell in love with a virtual reality headset, this family developed a program to help train his brain. Today, their software is being tested in classrooms - with amazing results. It's not science fiction - it's Superhuman. It is with sadness we share the news Harry Wachs, OD passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Harry was a true visionary and pioneer whose knowledge gave us the vision to further advance the development of so many children. He will be greatly missed and always remembered for his wisdom and knowledge. We were so fortunate to be able to work together and we will carry on his legacy at Profectum. Profectum and Celebrate the Children School will be forever grateful for the genius of Dr. Harry Wachs and all that he contributed to our developmental approaches. Both he and his wife, Ruth, were an integral part of our clinical families. Harry joined his wife, Ruth, Tuesday, but his work will live on forever within CTC, Profectum training programs and many other professional programs that have incorporated Harry’s thinking into their multidisciplinary, progress intervention programs! Profectum will publish a training video on Dr. Wach’s approach in 2017 that will be an invaluable resource to schools and clinics. The Dr. Wachs tribute video Dr. Wachs on development Grammy Nominated Children's Music Artist, Brady Rymer, composed Love Me for Who I Am, based on his experiences at Celebrate the Children. This video tells the story behind Love Me for Who I Am - Songs Celebrating Children of All Abilities, featuring the students at the Celebrate the Children School in New Jersey, who inspired Brady to create this joyful album. This project matters: it has made a strong connection with children who often find it very hard to connect to their worlds, and it sends kids on the autism spectrum a message of self-confidence and empowerment through rock 'n' roll. Parents and educators nationwide have lauded this collection of original songs, and Brady has appeared at several Autism Speaks events during the past year. The students at Celebrate the Children School are affected by autism and related conditions. Brady was moved by the stories he heard from the school community, the challenges faced by the students and their families, and by the enthusiasm and boundless energy the children brought to their day-to-day lives. He found himself wanting to write the kids songs of their own -- anthems, really: tunes relating to their own lives, music that would bring them together, songs they could feel great about. The result? 10 songs -- proud and rockin', infectiously fun, open-hearted and uplifting, occasionally heartbreaking -- that illuminate and celebrate the world of a child with autism.
